The 51st Iola Winter Carnival will be held on Saturday and Sunday, February 4-5, 2012. Many activities will take place in this small Norwegian community.
The Iola Lioness Club works in conjunction with several other local organizations in selecting the Snow Princesses. Members of the Senior class attending Iola-Scandinavia High School are asked to submit a resume if interested in being a Snow Princess. These resumes are reviewed and the number of candidates narrowed down to 4. These 4 students then go through an interview process to decide who will be the Snow Queen. The Snow Princesses will be present at the Winter Carnival festivities including the ice sculpting, ski jumping and the Norwegian Lutefisk Supper. Yes...they do have to eat the Lutefisk!
Members of the Iola Lioness also enjoy working the Norwegian Lutefisk Supper at the Iola-Scandinavia High School from 1:00 – 6:30 p.m. where lutefisk and fresh cod with drawn butter will be served family style, along with meatballs, potatoes, vegetables, lefse, and Norwegian pastries.
